How do private podcasts work? Transistor has updated its guide.

As one open standard gets integrated by Apple (the transcript), another has been integrated by Spreaker. The company now supports podping, a near-instant way of communicating to podcast directories that you’ve published a new episode. Already supported by companies like Buzzsprout, Blubrry, Transistor, RSS.com and Captivate (and us!), the addition of Spreaker adds a signficant number of shows, says John Spurlock.

Transistor has launched an AI speech-to-text transcription service. The tool includes automatic speaker detection, and is powered by Deepgram. Apple Podcasts launches transcripts on playback in the app next week (we think).

You import a video file; view the video as you make the audio edits; and then export out the lossless video file with the new, remastered audio.

You can now embed YouTube videos in Transistor website pages.

Transistor is the first podcast host that lets you add a Mastodon link to your pre-built podcast website. (Add an auto-episode-post service there, and they'll have all the tech to add automatic cross-app comments to everyone's RSS feeds.)

Podlove, podCloud and Castopod have joined Transistor in supporting OP3, the open analytics service.

Apple says podcasts don't need email addresses in their RSS feeds any more to combat spam, but the Canadian Podcast Awards is not having it. The removal of email addresses from RSS feeds "isn't one we agree with, or will support," the organisation says, adding "we do not have any plans at the moment to support feeds without contact information". Buzzsprout, Podbean and Canada's Transistor are among those who have removed email addresses by default from feeds.

Transistor has followed Buzzsprout's lead by removing email addresses from podcast RSS feeds, to combat spam: something Podnews has highlighted for a number of years. The company has also added support for a verification code to help podcasters claim their shows.

Transistor can now automatically add chapter timestamps into episode notes.

A group of podcast companies, RSS Buzzsprout Transistor Libsyn and Acast, are working on a project to promote open standards for podcasting. "The Podcast Standards Project" hopes to launch its website before January's Podfest.

Transistor's Justin Jackson has reported Acast to Canadian law enforcement and to Acast's email service provider, after the company targeted Transistor customers. Acast's email provider says that Acast's use is against its terms of service, and Jackson - who has previously worked for an email company - considers the emails are illegal under Canadian law. The company has recently targeted customers from Podbean, Captivate, Blubrry and others, using competitor's logos, and sending multiple follow-up messages to each podcaster. A spokesperson for Acast tells Podnews that the emails are "part of our continuing marketing strategy, which we don't currently plan to change".

Congratulations to podcast host Transistor, who say they now have 20,000 podcast feeds on the platform. A four-person team, it launched in August 2018.

If you're hosting your show with them, Transistor's podcast website builder now lets you add extra pages - great for sponsors, "about" pages, or other things.

Link to the Breaker podcast app on your website? Check they still work. The app was acquired by Maple Media a year ago; as of today, no Breaker links to podcasts work on the service, and the Breaker website forwards to Player FM. The app's still listed in the app stores, though; it now appears to be a blue-skinned version of the Player FM app.

The podcast:transcript tag is an open standard, supported by a number of podcasts and offers both static transcripts (in HTML or text) or real-time captions (in the SRT format). It has significant usage already - widely supported by many modern podcast hosts including Captivate, Transistor, Buzzsprout, Omny Studio and others, a number of podcast apps display these transcripts, including the popular Android app Podcast Addict. This open standard enables podcast publishers to produce accurate transcripts for themselves.

Apple Podcasts Clustergeddon: Transistor has updated their big list of bugs and problems with the recently-launched upgrade; episodes are missing, many people, like Paul Colligan, have no access to their podcast accounts after seven days. Some podcast publishers who we've spoken to are unable to launch any new podcasts. Apple have yet to give any statement, or even acknowledge the problem, which is unacceptable, says Andrew Clews - "this is people's livelihoods", he says. And Radio INK's Ed Ryan says "When a radio transmitter goes down an engineer will do everything possible to fix it. When Apple’s transmitter goes down they just don’t care."

Apple Podcasts Connect is still not working correctly. Like many podcast hosts, Transistor's support team is busy answering queries about it; and is keeping a full list of bugs and issues with Apple Podcasts Connect. Additionally, Evo Terra sounds less than happy - he's been five days waiting for Apple Podcasts Connect to set up his account.

Missing episodes: "We've been having issues with the crawler. Hoping to have it resolved today," a mystery Apple person tells Transistor's Justin Jackson.

Transistor's Justin Jackson shows on a Twitter thread that it's almost impossible to submit a new show to Apple Podcasts at the moment. The process results in errors including a new requirement for a phone number for some reason. Spotify, has a one-click submission process from most podcast hosting platforms.

Tortoise Media, the "slow media news platform" in the UK, has signed with Acast for podcast distribution and monetisation. They were using Transistor.
