Libsyn expands to Europe; Latino Podcast Listener Report released

• Libsyn is expanding to Europe by acquiring German podcast company Julep Media. The company is Germany’s largest independent platform for podcast advertising, and gives Libsyn opportunities across Europe: adding to the company’s other advertising acquisitions of AdvertiseCast in April 21, Podgo in Nov 21, and Podcast Ad Reps in Feb 22.

• The Latino Podcast Listener Report 2022 was published by Edison Research. The number of US Latino podcast listeners over the past month has slightly declined year-on-year to 38%. Of Latino podcast listeners, 47% are women. Elsie Escobar, who co-presented the results, writes her big takeaways; as has Maribel Quezada Smith.

• Spotify is testing a method of recording voice comments about a playlist. That feature is testing in Vietnam. Joe Rogan is said to want commenting features: is the plan to give Rogan fans a voice?

• Snipd, a podcast app “that uses AI to transcribe content and synchronize with note-taking apps”, has had an upgrade and now produces podcast highlights in a personalised feed.

• Transistor’s podcast player and episode pages now support timestamps, so you can link to a specific point in your show. Transistor users can also insert timestamp references in their show notes.

• Riverside’s CEO, Nadav Keyson, has written to customers with a “stability update”, saying that some recent issues have been fixed. Podnews understands that an update to Chrome may have been partly to blame.

• Host using Amazon CloudFront? You can now turn on HTTP/3 support, which can deliver files faster. (Podnews’s website and podcast is now HTTP/3 enabled.)

• Kelly Gittleman has joined RedCircle as the company’s new VP of Advertising Sales. She comes from iHeart where she’s been in ad sales for 20+ years, and focused on podcasts on the tail end of her time there; she’ll be leading the company’s growing advertising sales effort.
