The female economy - podcast listening among women

• Nielsen has uncovered differences in how men and women listen to podcasts. In their Podcasting Today report, they highlight significant differences in how we consume podcasts, and also released more data about the female economy.

• The Podcast Academy is to start sharing detailed resource guides for the industry, the Chair of The Podcast Academy, Donald Albright, has told Podland in an episode out today. We’ve a sample from the guide on the industry jargon and methods of monetization and funding - they will be available to full members. You can join here.

• Trust Nobody, the fan podcast for Wie is de Mol, a Dutch game show, is earning US$4,000 a month on Patreon, says Simon Owen. The show’s creators say that it’s “been made better by the user content and feedback submitted by the Patreon community”.

• Clubhouse is male and under 35, says Signal Hill Insights in the first piece of research in its users that we’ve seen. However, fewer than 20% of Canadian adults have even heard of it (far less using it); and even the people who use it don’t think it’s going to be a big success.

• Tortoise Media, the “slow media news platform” in the UK, has signed with Acast for podcast distribution and monetisation. They were using Transistor.

• Will Packer has signed with iHeartMedia to produce podcasts for the company.

• Podcastpage has added filters to their website tools, and has also added Plausible Analytics integration (an alternative to Google Analytics).

• GabbleCast appears to be a new podcast host. It seems to be free for now; it’s based in Hyderabad in India.

• Chrome browser extension Listen Notes for Chrome says it suggests podcasts to listen to from the website you’re looking at. It works from Vox or the New York Times or even Google; not on our website, though.

Rory and Mal are 'taking time for themselves while they work out their respective grievances’, according to an explanation within a 3-hour show on Wednesday. A Reddit post describes them as on strike, while a post in The Root uses phrases like 'acrimony’ and 'turmoil’.
