Good news: While Acast says it's coming soon, Google has already enabled OPML exports from Google Podcasts, so you can take your subscriptions out of the app and switch to a new podcast app. AntennaPod, Pocket Casts, Podverse's mobile app, or Fountain are among those that support OPML imports. Bad news: it's only currently available in the rather geeky Google Takeout service.

This time last week, we asked for boost messages - not (just) a vain attempt at getting more satoshis, but (also) a test of code that inserts messages received by boost directly into JSON chapters, in a tool by John Spurlock called Reflex. First look: A new grassroots industry coalition, the Podcast Standards Project, has been launched to advocate for open podcasting. The group includes podcast hosting companies like Buzzsprout, Red Circle, Captivate and Acast; and podcast players like Pocket Casts and Podverse. The group's initial blog post highlights why open podcasting is better for listeners and creators alike.

Podcast host RSS.com is the first podcast host to have released fully free automatic transcripts for all its customers. The transcripts appear on episode pages on the RSS website, and should also appear within supporting podcast apps (like Podverse, Podbean or PodcastAddict). Users can choose different qualities, depending how fast they want the transcripts adding, and can also edit them before publication. The tool was built in-house and has been under development for a year; initially transcripts are available in English, Spanish, Arabic, Catalan, Dutch, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese and Turkish.

Libsyn's The Feed podcast has added a
podcast:soundbite audio clip from the new podcast namespace into their RSS feed: we think that is the first use of the new podcast namespace for the show. You'll see the clip appear in this compatible podcast player. The audio, "there is no cliff", agrees with Podnews's analysis about the "big decrease of new podcasts".

Podcast hosting company Blubrry has released support for "value4value", a way to accept online payments from podcast listeners in apps like Fountain, Castamatic and Podverse. The company has partnered with Alby. With more than 100,000 shows using Blubrry, this is the biggest podcast host so far to natively support value4value. The company will release further support for the new podcast namespace next week.

Joe Rogan has apologised for repeated use of "the n-word" on his Spotify-exclusive show, after India Arie shared clips of Rogan using the racial slur more than 24 times. Rogan claims they were taken out of context. Spotify appears to have removed 70 episodes of his show over the weekend, according to a monitoring website; the company hasn't made any comment as to why. Scott Galloway and Roxane Gay both announced they're removing their podcasts from the platform; and the Obamas are hunting for a new podcast deal. Meanwhile, Spotify's Science Vs has released a special show, fact-checking Joe Rogan's interview with Robert Malone; and the BBC's Ros Atkins has posted an explainer about what's going on: it's a worthwhile, and balanced, five minutes.

Following up on our story last week about Apple Podcasts's continuing bugs, podcast host Buzzsprout gives some advice to podcasters to promote alternatives to Apple Podcasts, "if you want to push your listeners to a different app so that they actually get your episodes when they come out".

On Podcasting 2.0, Adam Curry believes that a podcast requires an open RSS feed, and that other shows should be called a "netcast". (Sounds familiar.) He also says that there will never be an Apple Podcasts for Android. We bet him 100,000 sats that there will be.

The Podcast Index is suggesting a method of improving podcast download tracking statistics with a
_guid parameter. The idea is to produce a random guid per enclosure, which is consistent for every listener. "Instantly, you have perfect stats," developer Dave Jones says, since it gives certainty for total download numbers without threatening privacy.

Podverse, a podcast app that lets you share clips of your favourite podcasts, is on Product Hunt today. The app, for web, iOS and Android, is fully available in open source, allowing (for example) a podcast network to use the code to launch their own podcast app.
