A new coalition, advocating for open podcasting

• First look: A new grassroots industry coalition, the Podcast Standards Project, has been launched to advocate for open podcasting. The group includes podcast hosting companies like Buzzsprout, Red Circle, Captivate and Acast; and podcast players like Pocket Casts and Podverse. The group’s initial blog post highlights why open podcasting is better for listeners and creators alike.

• First look: Gumball has expanded its host-read podcast advertising marketplace to YouTube. It allows marketers to work with YouTubers of all sizes, and has been already used by over fifty YouTube channels by some of the biggest ad brands.

• Libsyn’s Glow has unveiled integration with Spotify Open Access. It joins a number of publishers and services making their premium subscription content available on the platform.

• Audacy’s auction of its radio·com domain name was originally planned to end today. The auction page has been reset for another 90 days, suggesting that a buyer didn’t come forward.

• A new version of iOS is rolling out to iPhone and iPad, with additional features.

• A subject of Spotify and Gimlet’s Conviction, Melvin Quinney, has been exonerated, three years after the podcast’s second season premiered.

• Dr Pawd is a new podcast search website concept that searches for topics mentioned within the audio.

• Hassan Chaudhry has been confirmed as Head of Partnerships & Strategy for Blanchard House. He joins from HBO.

• Blanchard House has also hired Amica Sciortino Nowlan as Managing Producer; she was previously at The Economist.
