    Axios has cancelled their daily news podcast Axios Today, which the company produced with Pushkin Industries. The last episode was in mid September; the show becomes 1 big thing, a weekly, interview-style podcast, from Nov 2.

    Have you heard of an Aperol Spritz? 50% of all consumers haven't: but almost every marketer knows about the Italian wine-based cocktail. It's one example, according to new research from Pushkin Industries and iHeartMedia, of marketers increasingly not understanding the consumers they're trying to reach. The data claims that marketers often chase the ‘shiny and new’ at the expense of reflecting the values and priorities of real consumers.

    The Hot Docs Podcast Festival in Toronto released its full program. The first in-person Festival since 2019, the festival welcomes a slate of international and Canadian podcasts, including The New Yorker's Fiction Podcast, Articles of Interest, and Dinner SOS. It also hosts the Creators Forum on October 19 and 20, featuring top executives, producers and hosts from Acast, Bumper, Canadaland, CBC Podcasts, Condé Nast, HBO, Media Girlfriends, NPR, Pushkin Industries and more.

    Amazon Music asked to reduce a potential $10m deal with Pushkin Industries, after the audio division was told to make savings, according to Bloomberg. The Great Podcasting Market Correction highlights recent employment freezes and layoffs in the industry, and a slowdown of acquisitions. Ad sales have increased though, says Magellan AI in the article.

    Behind the Mic with AudioFile Magazine today features a chat with Pushkin Industries owner Malcolm Gladwell interviewed by Michele Cobb (who is publisher of AudioFile Magazine, and also Executive Director of The Podcast Academy). "Gladwell’s enthusiasm for the podcast format is one of the founding principles of Pushkin and this special episode explores what is beyond the boundaries of traditional audiobooks as a result of the explosion of the podcasting industry."

    Spotify says: "As shared in the announcement, we're activating those partners on a rolling basis – to mention just a few that have already been announced as live since July, we have rolled out Supercast, Slate Plus, Pushkin Industries and Mamamia. We have no new specifics to share right now, but expect to hear more from us in the near future!"

    And Pushkin Industries has also launched a direct podcast subscription program, which will also work in Spotify. Jacob Weisberg, Pushkin co-founder and CEO, acknowledges that they will continue to work closely with Apple Podcasts but adds: “We now want to make sure the same experience is available to listeners on other platforms.” The company will also use Supporting Cast.

    Are podcasts are bit too long? Blinkist, which takes best-selling nonfiction books and produces a 15-minute summary, has launched Shortcasts, doing 15-minute versions of podcasts. Revisionist History from Pushkin Industries is one of the shows offered in Shortcast format, in collaboration with the podcast creators.

    Further to our recent mention of the new Pushkin Industries podcast for Luminary, UK podcast producers Chalk and Blade contact us with the news that they're producing a total of three shows for Pushkin this year - two for Luminary, and a further title for the Rockefeller Foundation.
