- Feb 19: First look: SiriusXM has just announced that it is to expand its SiriusXM Podcasts+ premium subscription to Spotify, YouTube Music, and other podcast apps via SupportingCast. “This expansion brings SiriusXM Podcasts+ benefits – including ad-free listening to new episodes, exclusive bonus content, and early access to new episodes of popular shows – to all major podcast platforms.” (You can also subscribe directly with Apple Podcasts).
- Jan 31: SiriusXM shared the company’s 2024 results. “What is working? Well, wouldn’t ya know it… it’s podcasts.” says Chris Peterson, in his analysis of the numbers. He adds that “it’s time for independent publishers to control their own monetization”.
- Jan 29: There have been a number of layoffs at SiriusXM, impacting the podcast teams and Earwolf. Podnews understands that 100 roles were impacted, representing 2% of the workforce, along with a number of changes to the company’s structure. The CEO Jennifer Witz called it a “profoundly challenging day”. One of those included is Amelia Chappelow, who was Executive Producer at Earwolf.
- Jan 28: SiriusXM has pulled its video versions of Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy from Spotify along with other Unwell Network shows. The shows will be viewable on YouTube and the SiriusXM app. Cooper posted on Instagram saying that you can watch on YouTube “for free”.
- Jan 10: The Trendcast is new from SiriusXM - and gives an in-depth look at the evolving podcast landscape through the lens of the people driving the most change: the creators. The show reflects on the hottest podcast trends from 2024, as showcased in SiriusXM Media’s 2024 Podcast Trends Report.
