Podcast ad rates are on the rise

• Libsyn Ads released its June 2024 ad rates - average CPMs were $21.90, up 1.2% from May, and down 0.3% from last year. Technology podcasts pay the most; fiction podcasts are “more accessible”, the company says.

• Music streaming service Wavlake has partnered with ZBD, a payment infrastructure company. The tools use Podcasting 2.0’s value-4-value model, which enables music podcasts where the musicians get paid directly by listeners.

• There is no change in the top 15 podcast host market share ranker, according to Livewire. Spotify, Spreaker and Buzzsprout remain the top three for June.

• Buzzsprout’s download data for June shows a significant jump for “web browsers” in June. Google Podcasts posted a 1% share of downloads.

• There was a new podcast episode posted every 0.8 seconds last month, according to the Podcast Index (visualised by the Podcast Business Journal). However, the number of active podcasts (updated in the last 30 days) dropped by 10,000 last month, to 332,511.

• Google Podcasts is no longer visible in the Google Play store for new listeners.

Southern Fried True Crime has signed with Amplitude Media Partners for media sales. The show has been going since 2017, and is hosted by Erica Kelley.
