- Sep 21: Mediastream has lost its IAB Podcast Measurement Guidelines compliance. It was last certified in June 2024, and was removed from the list of companies on Thursday. The company, based in Chile, still claims it's compliant on its website, which also promotes that it can get your show listed in Google Podcasts.
- Apr 27: You can play RSS podcasts in YouTube Music. It's kind of like the spiritual successor to Google Podcasts - if you know how to use it.
- Aug 18, 2025: YouTube Music has added a “skip silence” function for podcast playback. The function was in Google Podcasts, which the company closed in June last year. The feature is still not available in Apple Podcasts.
- Dec 27, 2024: Fresh from closing Google Podcasts earlier this year, Google has broken another thing: this time, “Hey, Google, What’s The Latest News” from an Android phone. That used to be a way to get Podnews to play, but now, thanks to Gemini, a bad voice reads news headlines badly. Podnews reader James Hart blogs on how to fix it. - Nov 14, 2024: New US podcast consumption data from AnalyticsIQ suggests that YouTube is the most popular place for podcast listening, with 59% of people saying they’d listened to a podcast on it in the past three months. Comedy is the #1 podcast category; 23% say they’ve bought products because of a podcast ad. Not given in the report: the survey was undertaken in Q1/24 (which explains why 16% of listeners say they were using Google Podcasts, which closed in March).
