How to get your show on Apple's podcast charts

  • Dan Misener from Pacific Content posts about the surprisingly simple way to get your show on Apple’s podcast charts, and dives into how they actually work.

  • Ad Results Media have 100 staff, and 35% market share of podcast advertising. Podcasting is, unsurprisingly, the fastest-growing part of the business, according to AdWeek.

  • HotPod 152 is out. Nick looks at The Daily becoming a radio show, and asks whether it’ll work.

  • A piece from a Boston MA, USA innovation blog about RadioPublic, and how they are “helping define the future of podcasting”. They’re also covered in the latest episode of Early Stage. The company has also added a payment calculator to work out how much you could earn from their Paid Listens program.

  • The Houston Press posts 'five podcasts to check out if you’re new to podcasting'. (As a reminder, that’s most people: Edison Research says 60% of Americans have never listened to a podcast - in April 2017, at least).

  • While we’re mentioning Edison Research, their full US media survey Infinite Dial 2018 is revealed on March 8th. They’ve just revealed that Facebook usage is declining for the first time in history.

  • In March in Vienna Austria, Radiodays Europe is the largest radio conference in the world. Lots of content-related sessions that will be of interest to podcasters, but we’d recommend “Podcasts: Doing sport differently” (Lyndsey Hooper, The Offside Rule and Cheeka Eyres, For F1's Sake); Geoff Lloyd and Ed Miliband from Reasons to be Cheerful, and a session entitled Podcasting, where’s it going? with Edison Research’s Tom Webster and podnews’s James Cridland.

  • Spotify are going to launch their own speaker hardware, according to a job ad, at least. (They’re the second-most popular way of getting podcasts, according to Libsyn.)

  • ICYMI: Podnews is available as a daily briefing on Amazon Alexa devices (set it up in your app), and on Google Home and Assistant devices (“Hey, Google, ask podnews for the latest”).
