Just in time for Christmas, Zoom (the audio equipment manufacturer) is to launch the Zoom PodTrak P4next, a portable XLR multitrack recorder with “AI noise reduction”, compression and tone shaping. Here’s a demo video. It’s marked as “coming soon” on B&H for $179.99. We’ve not had a press release for it, but it appears to have been announced yesterday.

In the UK, Global ran its first-ever Audio & Entertainment Upfronts, highlighting the arrival of Global Studios, the launch of a new sports entertainment division, and a new podcast from Emily Maitlis. The company also launched Global:IQ, a data and effectiveness platform to “bring together first-party data, advanced analytics, and AI-driven creative optimisation tools”.

Independent audio producer Wonkybot (Tara Tremendous, Spooky Troop, Origins Unknown) has announced an adult comedy animated series called “The Swines”. We’ve the trailer (which goes live this morning), plus exclusive art of the podcast spinoff, which will go live next month alongside the animation.

Video podcasts are coming to Netflix: but, says newsletter Always Be Watching, Netflix has a functionality problem: Netflix won’t play the audio without the screen being unlocked and the video being visible.
- Spotify says that more than 70% “of people consuming video shows watch them in the foreground“ (at least some of the time), which suggests that 30% don’t. Plus in the same study, Spotify also suggests that 67% switch between watching and listening at different times.
- Mind you: on mobile, YouTube doesn’t let you play the audio in the background at all, without a YouTube Premium account.

In Australia, a crime podcast has been pulled after just one episode. The ABC reports on a “spectacular podcast bust-up” alleging improper payment, involving a convicted criminal, gambling ads and… an ABC reporter.

The IAB is making changes to its events next year - moving IAB NewFronts earlier to March 23-26 (a week after SXSW), and will combine the IAB Podcast Upfront with similar events for gaming and influencers into an event called IAB CreatorFronts, to be held Sep 15-17 2026 in New York City.
- Podcast Movement next year is also due to be held in New York City in Sep 2026. No word yet on a confirmed venue, or dates.

Triton Digital has released the Australian Podcast Ranker for September. The ranker measures participating publishers only, and includes demographic data for popular genres. The top three remain unchanged; the highest new entry is Hands Tied, an iHeart/BBC co-production.

After their show Archive 81 was adapted into a Netflix show, Deep Signals has released a new fiction podcast called Conversations with Ghosts. The new show plucks personalities from history to explore what we leave behind when we pass on.
