Spotify-owned podcasts to be on Netflix
-
Spotify and Netflix have announced a partnership to deliver a selection of Spotify’s top video podcasts to Netflix. The deal starts in early 2026, in the US only.
- Full video of those shows will be removed from YouTube - and will be available only on Spotify and Netflix. YouTube still gets clips; while audio versions of the podcasts will remain available across platforms.
- The selected shows are all owned by Spotify; Joe Rogan isn’t among them.
- Writing in Vulture, Nick Quah suggests it’s “a kind of mutual defense pact” against YouTube. Writing in /r/billsimmons, fans call this “lame”, “stupid”, and “dumb”; however some point out that the low production values of these shows (many of which are simply recorded Zoom calls) will look negatively different to others on Netflix.
-
Curiously, these Spotify shows are the first video podcasts to make it to Netflix - beating Netflix’s own video podcasts. The Wednesday Season 2 Official Woecast, which was launched in August and is made by Netflix, is available in video form on Spotify and Netflix’s competitor, YouTube. It isn’t, however, available on Netflix. 🤔

Tips & Tricks
- Don’t remove those old shows from your feed. Jordyn Christensen, Creator Partner Manager for Spotify in Australia and New Zealand, speaking this afternoon in a very laid-back presentation at MIK Studio’s room in SXSW Sydney: "I think this might surprise a lot of people, but 30% of consumption from the top 100 active podcasts come from episodes older than eight weeks.”
