Edison Research and Triton Digital have unveiled their Infinite Dial data for Canada, speaking at Canadian Music Week in Toronto ON. 36% of Canadians 18+ are now monthly podcast listeners, up from 28% last year; and Canadians listen to an average of five podcasts. We took some snaps of the podcast section: there’s a full webinar planned for Tues May 21, for which you can register online.

Edison Research have also released the full results for Infinite Dial Australia, after a webinar. 22% of Australians aged 12+ are monthly podcast listeners; by comparison, the figures are 32% for the US.

RAJAR have released their MIDAS study for Q1 2019. It contains consumption trends for UK radio and podcasting, and says that 14% of Brits 15+ listen to podcasts every week. (Not entirely comparable, but: Canada 23% (18+), Australia 15% (12+); US 22% (12+)).

Podcasters are curious to note that Google’s new podcast search results are mostly attached to Apple Podcast listings pages, rather than the podcast websites themselves.
- A search for “podnews” will display our website, then our page on Apple Podcasts with attached Google Podcast play buttons. Our podcast RSS feed correctly links to our website, though, and back again. Curious. We’d love to know why.

Spotify is reportedly testing a new version of its app that gives podcasts more prominence.

The podcast host ART19 is now IAB Certified, complying with IAB guidelines for measuring downloads. They join NPR and Blubrry.

In the UK, Somethin’Else is currently casting for a new business reality podcast that will offer one new “scale up” business the chance for £250k investment from one of the UK’s most successful entrepreneurs. The series will be called The Investor and will air later this year; a form to participate is here.
