Is Audioboom on Amazon's wishlist?

• Amazon and Spotify are both said to be considering buying Audioboom. The company, which monetises and publishes podcasts, has a market cap of more than US $370m.

• Podcast host Libsyn has been “delinquent with its financial filings”, according to the SEC, which has ordered proceedings against the company. This may mean, Libsyn acknowledge, that stock in the company may not be able to be traded. The company says it is “working closely with its external counsel, independent auditors, and tax experts to as promptly as practicable finalize and file the Outstanding Exchange Act Reports and any reports that become due subsequently.” Libsyn are title sponsor of Podnews this month.

• Acast released its Q4/21 financial results. The company claims 1 billion listens during the quarter. It posted a slightly smaller net loss for the quarter, of US $2.7m. Net sales for 2021 overall grew by 73%.

• Congratulations to Arielle Nissenblatt’s EarBuds Podcast Collective for celebrating the newsletter’s five year anniversary. You should subscribe: the newsletter shares five podcast episodes a week according to a theme, curated by a different person each week.

• In Germany, the Bundesverband Digitale Wirtschaft has released a white paper to try to harmonise terminology for podcast advertising, and achieve a common approach to ad regulation.

• Apple has added Pinecast, Podigee, RedCircle and RSS·com to its podcast hosting providers page. If you’re a hosting provider not listed, you should contact Apple here.

• ReClipped is a tool to take and organise notes on audio or video files. It looks like it works on any audio, including pre-release edits.

• A listener to an Australian podcast laughed so hard she crashed into another car. The show’s hosts, Toni and Ryan, have apologised; the show’s said to have already had four million downloads.

• Saturday was Africa Podcast Day. The event was celebrated across the continent, including South Africa’s SABC. Meanwhile, Edison Research has announced that the Infinite Dial South Africa will be unveiled on Feb 24.

• More than a quarter of a million podcasts are now notifying podcast apps about new episodes via podping. The system offers near-instant notification of new episodes, and removes the need for podcast directories to continuously poll RSS feeds.

• Buzzcast, the official Buzzsprout podcast, is now enabled for “value4value”, joining The New Media Show and Podland News as accepting cryptocurrency from audiences. You can support these shows using new podcast apps like Fountain.
