Also at The Podcast Show, Sony Music Entertainment announced that Kermode and Mayo's Take had become the most popular Apple Podcasts Subscription in the UK; and the company has just announced The Binge, a new podcast subscription channel with full seasons of shows, to launch June 6.

Kermode & Mayo’s Take launched last week - the replacement for the BBC Radio 5 Live show, now produced under the Somethin'Else brand. Film reviews and rather a lot more, it's one of the UK's longest-running podcasts.

The hosts of one of the UK's biggest podcasts, Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo are to take their film review podcast to Sony Music Entertainment. The new show, Kermode and Mayo’s Take, launches in early May. There'll also be an additional, paid, show on Apple Podcasts.

Another of the BBC's biggest podcasts is to end. The 21-year-old film review from Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode will have its last show on BBC Radio 5 Live on Apr 1, but "will be back", according to the show, which was very clear to point out that it was ending "on 5 Live". Footballer Peter Crouch is taking his 5 Live show to Acast.

The BBC Sounds app continues to gather bad press. The BBC, who has lost a number of radio presenters recently including Chris Evans, Simon Mayo and Charlie Sloth, has suffered another setback with the announcement that Brett Spencer, formerly Digital Editor for BBC Radio's music channels, has accepted a new role as Digital Content Director for rival Bauer Media. Formerly under his watch? Kermode and Mayo's Film Review.

We're noting that the Apple iTunes search API is currently stale - many of the above new podcasts aren't appearing in the API search results. Our search engine is also now querying the ListenNotes API - intriguing differences for a search for, say, Kermode.
