J.R.R. Tolkien, der Schöpfer Mittelerdes, war Zeit seines Lebens ein fleißiger Briefeschreiber. Aus seiner umfangreichen Korrespondenz lassen sich nicht nur Rückschlüsse auf seinen Charakter ziehen, sondern auch die Entstehung seiner bekanntesten Werke verfolgen. In diesem Podcast wollen wir Euch mitnehmen auf eine Reise zwischen die Zeilen des berühmten Oxford Professors. Sein Biograph Humphrey Carpenter veröffentlichte gemeinsam mit Tolkiens Sohn Christopher eine Auswahl von 354 Briefen. Diese nehmen wir in unserem Podcast unter die Lupe. In jeder Episode besprechen wir einen Brief. Dabei wird die Korrespondenz nicht direkt vorgelesen, sondern vielmehr in den historischen Kontext eingeordnet. Wo möglich, geben wir Euch Hintergrundinformationen zum Inhalt oder den erwähnten Personen. "Wir", das sind Annika Röttinger, die ihre Masterarbeit über Tolkien verfasst hat, und Tobias M. Eckrich, Erster Vorsitzende der Deutschen Tolkien Gesellschaft. Beide beschäftigen sich seit Jahren intensiv mit Tolkiens Leben und Werk – sei es in Vorträgen, Publikationen oder Podcasts wie „Tolkien in 5 Minuten“, „TolkCast“ oder „Silmaria“.
