Where to promote movies for the ears?
-
Podcasts can be movies for the ears - so CurtCo promoted their sci-fi series Solar to movie-goers in the cinema for much of last month. There were trailers played on the big screen - and movie posters in the lobby - at all locations of Maya Cinemas.

Luxurist magazine, an up-market magazine in the UK, has placed six South Asian podcasters on the front cover of its latest issue. Veena Nayyar, Preeti, Smita Joshi, Resham Ahdan, Angelee Sidhar and Sangeeta Pillai are featured: “British South Asian women are seizing the mic, not to shout over the noise but to create meaningful conversation.”

In the UK, France, Belgium, Québec and Sweden the International Podcast Alliance has been launched - an industry body “uniting professional organisations representing podcast and audio producers, businesses and publishers globally.” The initiative will respond to common challenges including legal recognition, fair platform practices, access to public funding, and a fragmented ecosystem.

BBC Sounds has released its Q3/25 audience figures for its proprietary audio app. Total (UK) plays were up +8.5% from 622mn to 675mn year-on-year; audiences increased +4.3% to 4.8mn weekly active users.
- The Corporation has also introduced a new weekly figure for “pan BBC audio” which includes visualised podcasts. That figure is 5.1mn, suggesting visualised podcasts bring in an extra 300,000 people who don’t currently listen to audio-only shows.
- However, after a reorganisation leading to an incomplete international BBC Audio product, and a paywall in the US for BBC News, total global podcast downloads are slightly down, from 213mn to 212mn. The top 3 shows are Global News Podcast, 6 minute English, and The Documentary Podcast. Confusingly, the BBC’s internationally-available podcasts still promote BBC Sounds, a product that was closed outside the UK in July.

Magellan AI has released its list of top podcast advertisers for September 2025. The top of the list is a company called Washable Sofas, which spent more than $7.3mn. We’ve been told we mustn’t make a JD Vance joke here, so we won’t.
