Audacity to share app analytics data

• Audacity, an open-source audio editor, is to share limited analytics data with their company in Kaliningrad in Russia, it has announced. The data shared, which you don’t appear to be able to opt-out of, includes your IP address but doesn’t include your name, address or email. The app was “acquired” by Muse Group, a company based in Cyprus, in May; they attempted to add analytics through Google and Yandex, but reversed that decision. They have also requested open-source developers sign a license agreement to contribute new code.

• Ardour, a free audio editor, has released v6.8 which includes a Remove Gaps feature and a number of bugfixes.

• Acast has appointed Kate Digby as Group Sales Lead, Australia and New Zealand. She’d been at Sonder and Nova Entertainment.

• Pivot podcast producer Rebecca Sananes has been hired by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Audio. She’ll report to Ben Browning, Head of Content for Archewell.

• Podcast host Castos has raised $756,000 in funding from investors including Automattic, the owners of Wordpress.

• Podcast Index has launched a new end point by GUID. GUIDs, a permanent ID for your podcast, are pre-generated for every podcast in their database; but if you set one directly, that’ll always overwrite Podcast Index’s.

The Guardian tells us that “podcasting success is not limited to white old men”, featuring the hosts of The Receipts. “While research on podcasting specifically is scant, ethnic minorities make up just 7% of the UK radio workforce (versus 12% of the wider population)”.

Built for your lunch break, Walk the Pod from comedian Rachel Wheeley asks you to “take 10 minutes to listen, walk and pay attention to what’s directly in front of you.” It’s just hit episode 200, and series 16 starts next week.

Aftershock is a new original scripted podcast from iHeartMedia, starring Sarah Wayne Callies, David Harbour and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. It’s a ten-part series, launching next week.
