• Apple Podcasts Subscriptions are launched to all today, with the release of iOS 14.6, Watch OS 7.5 and MacOS 11.4 has also been released.

  • Another new podcast subscription channel, Blinkist, has launched. Shortcasts is a channel with short, 15 minute versions of popular podcasts. The company has already made paid-for audio content available on the App Store.

• You can now watch Joe Rogan while wrestling: Spotify now lets you watch video podcasts while playing games on your Xbox.

• A union has filed an unfair labour practice claim against WNYC’s owner New York Public Radio, alleging that the company is using surveillance, ignoring employment contracts, and engaging in threatening behaviour.

• Spotify tell us that Brits are turning to late-night podcasting. “Women aged 25-44 showed the biggest increases in late night podcast streaming with a rise of 32% over the past few months, with religion and spirituality content consumption also seeing a bump of 33% in the overnight hours during the third (UK) lockdown.” Spotify suggest that Brits are “putting off their sleep with some late night podcast listening”; we’d suggest they might be using them to fall asleep.
