Amanda Palmer launches weekly podcast

• Musician, author and speaker Amanda Palmer has launched a weekly podcast, The Art of Asking Everything. Of note: the show is entirely paid-for by over 15,000 people on Patreon.

• Wonder about the power of podcasting? Pod Save America has helped raised $22.7m, from 251,000 people, to help a campaign against US politician Mitch McConnell. As one of the prganisers of the British Podcast Awards, Matt Deegan, notes, it’s a great example of super charging an audience.

• Acast has launched in Canada, with Canadian MD Heather Gordon, formerly of CBC/Radio-Canada; it launches working with Corus, CBC, eOne, and others; and has already had more than eleven million downloads. The company is now operating on the ground in ten countries around the world.

• What’s The Story? Sounds, a podcast production company in Leeds in the UK, has signed a first-look development deal with Kudos, a drama producer.

• Raise your glass to WhiskyCast, which won the award for “Best Broadcast, Podcast, or Online Video Series” by the Tales of the Cocktail Foundation.

• End your podcast? Or just pivot? That’s what Expedia did, according to JAR Audio who works with them on their Out Travel The System podcast.

• Captivate, a podcast host, is to integrate with Zapier, and are looking for beta testers. Zapier allows a number of automation triggers with over 2,000 apps and services - Podnews uses it to post stories to Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. (Disclosures)

• The Australian True Crime podcast - which claims a monthly audience of 1.4m people - is planning a virtual event in October, promising stories which never made it to the podcast.

• Podcast in Color has been announced: a three-day virtual summit in November, to to empower voices of color.

Between The Devil launched yesterday - a new show from the scripted horror network The Violet Hour.

In 1995, the War Child charity album HELP was released. HELP - The Story of the War Child Album documents the album’s creation, with interviews from artists including Paul Weller, Ed O’Brien from Radiohead, James Dean Bradfeld from The Manic Street Preachers, Tim Burgess from The Charlatans, Dave Rowntree from Blur, Adrian Utley from Portishead and many of the key figures behind the record’s creation.
