La provincia 53

En noviembre de 1975, mientras Franco agoniza en Madrid, el rey Hassan II de Marruecos lanza sobre el Sáhara Occidental la conocida como ‘Marcha Verde’. Una procesión de más de 300.000 civiles, flanqueados por militares, cruza la frontera para exigir la anexión del Sáhara, un territorio que España había ocupado un siglo atrás y que el régimen franquista se había comprometido a descolonizar mediante un referéndum supervisado por Naciones Unidas. Pocos días después del órdago de Hassan II, el gobierno español acuerda la cesión de la administración del territorio a Marruecos y Mauritania. Medio siglo después, Marruecos continúa ocupando el Sáhara Occidental y más de 170.000 exiliados saharauis viven en los campamentos de refugiados de Tinduf, en Argelia.

'La Provincia 53' es una serie documental de Onda Cero Podcast narrada por Carlos Alsina que cuenta la historia de la última colonia española y que, a través de más de una veintena de entrevistas con historiadores, periodistas, militares y exiliados saharauis, profundiza en las circunstancias que llevaron al gobierno español a abandonar no solo el territorio, sino también a un pueblo, el saharaui, que después de cincuenta años de represión y guerra continúa luchando por decidir su destino.
