L'altro animale
“Ci specchiamo negli altri, ma troppo spesso vediamo solo noi stessi”; questo vale “per le persone e gli animali con cui condividiamo la Terra. Conoscerli significa amarli.” Queste frasi del filosofo Dale Jamieson e della scrittrice Bonnie Nazdam introducono efficacemente il tema del podcast: il tentativo di comprendere la mente degli animali non-umani. Nella nostra civiltà dominano due atteggiamenti opposti: per un verso, la riduzione degli animali a cose, mezzi o merci; per l’altro verso, la completa antropomorfizzazione degli animali, su cui vengono proiettati caratteri delle persone umane con un procedimento in stile disneyano. Tra questi due estremi si colloca la ricerca di chi oggi si interroga sulla mente animale, tra filosofia ed etologia. In dialogo con diversi esperti, si ragionerà di pregi e limiti dell’antropomorfismo, delle diverse forme di mente, di società animali, di diritti e animalismo, e di come queste riflessioni possono condizionare la nostra relazione con animali come cani, gorilla, polpi, maiali e pipistrelli, in cui ritroviamo un familiare altro da noi, talvolta consolante, talvolta inquietante, che ci meraviglia e ci coinvolge.
