Die Entwicklung der deutschen Psychiatrie und teilweise auch der Nachbarländer der letzten 50 Jahre wird subjektiv und kritisch besprochen und bewertet. Gibt es tatsächlich (ausreichend) Respekt und Augenhöhe gegenüber den Menschen mit psychischen Erkrankungen? Was geben die Strukturen des Gesundheits- und Sozialbereichs, in denen Psychiatrie stattfindet her? Welche Chancen und Hindernisse bieten sie? Bereichert durch Gespräche mit Insidern und Zeitzeugen aus den verschiedensten Perspektiven.
In jeder Folge wird zudem ein Song aus der Rock- und Popgeschichte gespielt und der jeweilige Künstler vorgestellt. Durch die einzelnen Folgen führt Euch Klaus Jansen-Kayser, selber ein langjähriger Akteur und Kenner der Psychiatrie-Szene. Bis zur 13. Episode war Christian Gredig der Autor des jeweiligen Musikteils. Seit der 14. Episode hat Bernd Nigbur diesen Part übernommen.
