À la fin du XXème siècle, l’érosion des religions consacrées laisse la place à de nouvelles croyances qui prospèrent sur le terreau des utopies et des contre cultures. On cherche alors dans un ailleurs cosmique des réponses à des questions éternelles : qui sommes nous ? où allons nous ? Quelle est la voie du bonheur ? C’est dans ce bouillonnement spirituel qu’apparait une nouvelle figure aussi inquiétante que charismatique: celle du gourou. A la fois prophète, messie et guide initiatique le gourou entend apporter la vérité à ses disciples qui le vénèrent tel un Dieu vivant au sein de leurs sectes.
