Die Einführung gibt einen Überblick über soziokulturelle und sozioökonomische Voraussetzungen von Erziehung und Bildung, pädagogische Zielfragen und Grundlagen der Theorien erzieherischen Handelns. Eingegangen wird auf pädagogische Aufgabenfelder, Institutionen, insbesondere Familie und Schule. Themen sind außerdem geschichtliche Ideen und sozialhistorische Fragen sowie ein Überblick zum Bildungswesen in Deutschland.auch in international vergleichender Sicht. Auf die bildungspolitischen und -theoretischen Konzepte “Lebenslangen Lernens” und “Bildungsprozesse über die Lebensspanne” wird eingegangen.
