“Viaje al oeste” es una de las cuatro novelas clásicas de la Literatura China. Fue escrita conforme a una historia real—el monje budista de la dinastía Tang de China, Xuan Zang, fue a la India en peregrinación por las Escrituras búdicas—y crea los cuatro personajes: el monje Tang, el mono Sun Wukong, el monje Sha Seng y el puerco Zhu Bajie, quienes, superando innumerables dificultades, llegaron por fin a la India.
