整部《李白诗集导读》可当做一部小型《李白传》读。作者在下编所撷取的李白诗，基本都与李白的某一人生阶段相系（系年多与郁贤皓重合）。全书重心落在“士不遇”的人设上，并以此出发，挖掘李白对现世和政治形式的关注，进而将他的“出世”思想定位为他预设的在达成功名后的理想和入世受挫时的退路。 作为导读，这本书语言平易，主题明确一以贯之。下编的注释多本王琦，但为了简明删去了很多内容。作者的诗评则重在介绍“此诗阐释了李白在XX时段因XX而XX的心情”，不能说没有文学性，但比较稳当吧，和李老师飞扬跋扈、大开大合的风气
