I Præsteværelset i Sankt Pauls sidder sognepræst Kathrine Lilleør og tænker over de spørgsmål, som går igen i hendes samtaler med mennesker i alle aldre. Eviggyldige temaer som tilgivelse, svigt, håb, tvivl, liv, død og kærlighed bliver behandlet med hjælp fra fortællinger i Biblen, den store litteratur, poesien og oplevelser fra Kathrines eget liv.
