Den yderste grænse handler om mænd og kvinder, hvis nysgerrighed overvinder farer og formaninger. Om dem, som drager på ekspedition til verdens ende for at udvide vores perspektiver. Det er historier om møder med fremmede, som måske ikke er så fremmede endda, og om oplevelser, der ender med at forandre de rejsende og give dem nye indsigter i de uendeligt mange måder, mennesker kan leve livet på.

Vært er eventyreren Bjørn Harvig. Han har selv rejst verden rundt til fods og på cykel og er medlem af Eventyrernes Klub. Sammen med historikere og eksperter fortæller han de mest dramatiske kapitler i ekspeditionshistorien.
