De eenzame uitvaart
In Amsterdam gaan jaarlijks zo’n 5000 mensen dood. Een op de tien van deze overlijdens wordt niet direct opgemerkt door kennissen of nabestaanden. Een speciale afdeling van de gemeente moet er aan te pas komen om alsnog een broer, zus of verre neef te vinden. Als zelfs dat niet lukt, draait het uit op een eenzame uitvaart.
Joris van Casteren is schrijver en coördinator van stichting De Eenzame Uitvaart. Hij zorgt dat een eenzaam overledene alsnog een waardig afscheid krijgt. Hij duikt in de vergeten levens van deze mensen, en vraagt een dichter een gedicht te schrijven voor de overledene. Die verhalen tekent hij op voor de Volkskrant, en leest hij voor in deze podcast.
