Es ist einer der aufsehenerregendsten True-Crime-Stoffe der letzten Jahrzehnte: Am 30. März 1985 werden die Eltern der kanadischen Studentin Elizabeth Haysom in ihrem Haus in Virginia auf brutalste Weise ermordet. Sie hatten mit ihrem Mörder zuvor offenbar gegessen und getrunken. Haysoms Freund – der deutsche Diplomatensohn und Student Jens Söring – und sie selbst werden im April 1986 in London festgenommen. »Das System Söring« erzählt die Geschichte eines wegen zweifachen Mordes verurteilten Deutschen, der 2019 aus einem US-amerikanischen Gefängnis auf Bewährung entlassen und nach Deutschland ausgeliefert wurde. Seitdem versucht er, gemeinsam mit einem Netzwerk von Unterstützer:innen, die Öffentlichkeit von seiner Version der Ereignisse zu überzeugen. »Das System Söring« setzt auf Fakten, Berichte und bisher ungehörte exklusive Stimmen – darunter eine ehemalige Vertraute Sörings, ein ehemaliger Scotland-Yard-Ermittler sowie ein Polizist, die beide mit dem Fall befasst waren. Die Schuldfrage hat ein US-Gericht 1990 entschieden. Seitdem kursieren zum Fall viele Erzählungen. Und doch: Das Bild, das über den Fall in der Öffentlichkeit besteht, ist unvollständig. Mit diesem Podcast können sich die Hörer:innen ihr eigenes Bild machen – auf der Grundlage von Berichten und Fakten, die in dieser Form erstmals zusammengeführt werden.
