A comedy podcast from Rob Hackney and Gar Wilson, Music by Darren Curtis

In 2016 I reached out to prolific cult author Gar Wilson for permission to read his series of Phoenix Force novels as a podcast.

Mr Wilson returned my enquiry with an impromptu production plan, flying out to my home town and hiring a full production crew and studio through dubious means, to record the entire series in audiobook format. He intends to make the resulting series of audiobooks available on all media platforms, read by the author.

However, at the last minute it became evident that he did not have the rights to his work, and so recording began in earnest on the project that would be retitled Redacted Force, read by the author--who was legally required to change every fifth word on average live, during production.

This podcast is a look behind the scenes of that process.

Stats: Statistics are produced by Acast to help Redacted Force to understand how many downloads it is getting, or how many people are listening. Your device’s IP address and user agent is used to help calculate this figure. Acast is IAB v2 certified. Here is more detail about podcast statistics.

Tracking and attribution: Acast or its partners may connect the fact you listened to this podcast to an action elsewhere on the internet. For example - it may spot a device that downloaded an episode of Redacted Force later visited the website of an advertiser; or it may track that a device that listened to Redacted Force also listened to a different show. This form of attribution is used to measure advertising effectiveness.

Dynamic content insertion: Acast may use limited data that they know about you - the device you’re using, the approximate location you’re in, or other data that can be derived from this, like the current weather forecast for your area - to change parts of the audio. Redacted Force may do this for advertising or for other forms of content, like news stories.

Redacted Force is able to use the above tools since its podcast host or measurement company offers this service. It doesn’t mean that this individual podcast uses them, or has access to this functionality. We use open data.
