Pre-Occupied: A History of Police In The North
The Pre-Occupied podcast is a production of CICK News. Hosted and produced by Pam Haasen, and featuring the music of Mikaih Beats. In this show, we cover a number of facets of policing in northern Canada and some of the information can be triggering or offensive to the listener. Please listen with caution. The aim of this series is to shine a light on the history of how the RCMP came to exist in Western Canada. Pre Occupied focuses on the very early years of the RCMP and the controversies created with the long arm of the law overextending itself into First Nations affairs, focusing especially on the tragedies suffered to the peoples of Northern BC in specific. I am focusing on Northern BC because I reside on Wet’suwet’en territory and through my work as a producer for CICK News I have learned much about the disassociated narratives between the RCMP and the people they are supposed to protect.
