- Mar 16: This now means that almost all major podcast hosting companies - ones with more than 2% market share of new episodes - will be able to deliver HLS video to Apple Podcasts. But, no HLS video for you if you’re with competitor Spotify for Creators and Spotify-owned Megaphone (28% market share), Spreaker (14%), for which the obvious answer is an upgrade to Omny Studio, and two heritage podcast companies are also not yet offering HLS video: Buzzsprout (7.2%) and, surprisingly, Libsyn (2.7%). (It should probably also be noted that video is likely to be an additional charge, given the cost of hosting).
- Jan 12:
Chartable closed for everyone on Dec 8; and now no longer works. That means that all shows with
chtbl.comorchrt.fmin the enclosure URL will no longer play (Spotify hasn't maintained a simple redirect). As of this weekend, that's affecting 10,667 different shows, according to The Podcast Index. Here's how to remove the Chartable Trackable RSS prefix in Megaphone if you use that. - Jan 8: Spotify announced dynamically inserted video sponsorships are due for launch in April, allowing creators to add and remove sponsorships. Scheduling and measurement will also be offered. It'll work with both Megaphone and Spotify for Creators - and others (see below).
- Dec 2, 2025: Edison Research released the top 25 podcasts in the UK for Q3/25. Wondery’s RedHanded makes it to the top 25 for the first time. Goalhanger have four shows in the list; the BBC have five. Acast and Megaphone both host six shows.
- Nov 13, 2025: Spotify’s Megaphone has renewed its IAB Podcast Measurement Guidelines Certification. The company was already on v2.2; the new certification was added to the IAB’s website yesterday. Parent company Spotify abruptly pulled all IAB certification in April last year; only to change its mind two months later.
