- Jan 16: Before Christmas, some Megaphone customers saw a significant decrease in download numbers. “Something seems off”, one told us, “...and I can’t get a straight answer as to why.” The company has now sent a message to users saying that they’d found a bug; and that it’s fixed - affected dates are Nov 21 to Jan 13. Payouts were unaffected.
- Jan 7: After NPR switched to using Megaphone to host its podcasts in 2023, NPR itself is no longer listed as being a podcast host that is compliant with the IAB podcast measurement guidelines.. Megaphone is v2.2 compliant.
- Jan 6: iHeart’s consumer podcast host Spreaker published 13.5% of all new podcast episodes in December, according to Livewire - a record for the company, and an increase in share of 2.7x year-on-year. Its share was just 5% in December 2023, and it’s grown consistently since September. Spotify for Creators also saw an uplift to 24.4%; the #3 podcast host, Buzzsprout, saw a drop to 6.5%. Megaphone has also dropped year-on-year.
- Dec 12, 2024: As of Saturday evening, the Chartable prefix was still in 21,585 shows (not including those in Megaphone). We know many have now been removed automatically by podcast companies. If you’re unsure, contact your host’s support team and ask.
- Dec 10, 2024: Chartable has emailed users to remind them to remove the Chartable prefix before Dec 12 (Thursday). SmartLinks will stop working too. (If you’re with Spotify’s Megaphone, you’re unaffected). We’ve a list of alternatives.
