Are voice messaging apps the next place for podcasts?

• A new place to listen to podcasts? Podcast host Podeo is to distribute its podcasts in imo, a call and message app used by more than 200 million people. The app also has audiobooks and more content in Bengali and Saudi.

• Spotify’s Megaphone is now an associate member of ACPM, one of France’s podcast measurement services. ACPM’s January 2024 numbers show the top ten publishers increased downloads by 14.9% year-on-year - Android has more than a 70% market share in the country, so no iOS 17 issues there.

• ToneDen’s “podlinks”, which use the podlink.to domain, stopped working late last week (along with some other .to addresses of theirs). The company, which is owned by Eventbrite, has not responded for comment; it seems to be a DNS issue.

• Avant Haüs Media has launched The Women’s Podcast Industry Network, a membership network focused on podcast execs and professionals and their well-being.

• Poor audio mixing makes an ad less effective, says a new piece of research from Veritonic. Poorly-mixed audio means more negative thoughts towards the brand, it says.
