Premium SiriusXM podcasts / trouble at Crooked Media?

SiriusXM is to launch SiriusXM Podcasts+, a premium podcast subscription, through the SiriusXM app but also within Apple Podcasts. This link will let you purchase via Apple from Monday. It uses Apple’s connected subscriptions product, which launched last October.
- “Transcripts of the podcasts, offering full-text display for each episode making them easier to navigate and accessible for the Deaf and hearing impaired, will be available in Apple Podcasts” the press release says, potentially aimed at a resolution for the legal action taken against SiriusXM by the National Association for the Deaf.

In Bloomberg, Ashley Carman details issues at podcast producer Crooked Media, which has seen high staff turnover over the past eighteen months, a co-founder dating an employee, and increasingly acrimonious all-hands meetings. The company is accused of unfair labor practices by the WGAE.

A podcast production company has been bought by its client. Fascinate Productions has been acquired by ZOE, a science and nutrition company; the company makes the ZOE Science & Nutrition podcast.

Yahoo is to get access to Disney and Spotify podcast inventory. In a partnership announced this week, Yahoo DSP will have programmatic access to Disney ABC and ESPN podcast inventory. Also, Spotify will make its podcast inventory available via Yahoo for Programmatic Guaranteed campaigns.

American Airlines has launched over 240 hours of content from Audible Originals - “hit audiobooks, must-listen podcasts, and premium audio dramas” - on its inflight entertainment system. It’s connected to a two-month free trial for AA customers.

9.9% of new episodes were published on Spreaker in July - that’s a new record figure for the #2 podcast host. They’ve a long way to catch Spotify for Podcasters, though, which remains at #1 with 25.1%. There’s no change in the top ten rankings.

The number of shows being tracked by attribution companies like Chartable and Podsights have increased by more than 21% year-on-year. More than one-in-five shows have trackers on them, with Podtrac and Chartable being the biggest companies.
