Has Amazon Ads been marking its own homework a little too generously? The company announced that it is to change the way it counts ad display impressions, according to a note from Amazon posted to LinkedIn. “Today, we count an (ad) impression when the ad starts to download to the shopper’s device. Starting Jan 1, 2027, we will count an impression once the ad appears on the shopper’s screen”. It warns advertisers that they’ll see, on average 63% lower ad impressions as a result. As PPCLand suggests, Amazon is implying that “most of the display impressions currently counted on these placements never reach a screen”; and points out that Google’s AdSense also calculates ad impressions the same way. That rather puts the current argument about podcast downloads vs plays (we think there’s a 13% difference between the two) in a different light…

A member of the Board of Directors of PodcastOne, Ramin Arani announced his resignation, for personal reasons, on Oct 27. Arani, a Fidelity Investments portfolio manager, was on all three financial committees within the company. His resignation comes a day after the interim Chief Financial Officer Craig Christensen announced that he was leaving the company. Christensen becomes PodcastOne’s third finance chief to have left the company in less than two years. From the outside, the timing looks difficult - recent filings suggested “substantial doubt” that the company can continue trading beyond July 2027, and both people leave at a time when PodcastOne is apparently attracting “multiple” potential buyers.
