“I loved this mattress” doesn’t work as well as “I love this mattress”. A piece of scientific research undertaken earlier this year in the Journal of Consumer Research found that reviews or word-of-mouth recommendations (“host-read ads on podcasts”, we’d suggest) work better if they’re in the present tense than in the past tense.
