More brands than ever are considering podcast advertising

Cumulus Media and Westwood One have released their annual Advertiser Perceptions study, which examines brand and agency sentiment on podcast advertising. In the past five years, podcast advertising consideration among brands and agencies has grown 2.5x and spend intention has grown nearly 4x, says the study.

Emarketer reckon that US podcast ad spending will increase by 10% in 2020, but they give no source. In July, the IAB put 2020's predicted ad revenue increase at 14.7%.

Acast is to sell its own advertising in Australia, abruptly (but “amicably”) ending its sales relationship with NOVA Entertainment, an Australian radio broadcaster.

Podcast Movement has announced the first set of speakers for Podcast Movement Virtual. The event runs October 19-29.

NPR is back at #1 in Podtrac’s August US podcast publishers ranker; iHeartRadio is at second place, though is still #1 for global consumption. US unique audience increased by 10% month-on-month for the top 10 publishers. There’s no change in the top 5 in Podtrac’s August US individual podcast ranker. Spotify’s shares dipped by 8.8% following Joe Rogan’s debut on the platform, says a premium article on Billboard, laying the blame on bad press following missing episodes from controversial guests. That temporarily wiped $4.81 billion off the company’s value; however initial news of the deal in May added $4bn, so we’re probably even.

Bigfoot has been sighted - on the Behringer website; the audio company has launched their first USB microphone for podcast use. It’s a condenser, and there’s no pricing indication yet.
