Planning for the unexpected

  • It’s something that’s a little awkward, but… if something happens to you, what happens to your podcast and your digital estate? We’ve compiled a set of things you should do - some will take just a few minutes - to make it easier for your colleagues and your loved ones should something happen to you. Recent events show us that we’re not always in control of what happens to us in life: so it’s important to make sure that your work lives on.

  • A significant competitor to YouTube, video sharing website Vimeo has been acquired by Bending Spoons for $1.38bn. Bending Spoons acquired Streamyard last year, and almost doubled its monthly pricing. It’s also doubled the pricing for Evernote, and tripled the price for Meetup. The company also owns WeTransfer and video hosting and streaming platform Brightcove.

  • Skimr is a new podcast app that “helps you catch up on 10+ episodes in under 30 minutes with intelligent summaries & swipeable keypoints.”

Beer drinking opportunity: Our Editor, James Cridland, will be at The Yorkshire Grey in Langham Street, London, from 5pm-7pm tomorrow, Tuesday Sep 16, for an impromptu meetup with podcast and radio people. Sam Sethi, co-host of the Podnews Weekly Review and CEO of TrueFans, will also be there. Come for a pint of “man in the box”, and stay for a chat with others from the audio world.

The Tech Stuff - with RSS.com

  • Not for podcasting, but might be useful for others: openRSS is a website that makes RSS feeds for websites that don’t have them.

  • iOS 26 and macOS 26 will be rolled out today, probably at 10am Pacific (1pm Eastern). We’ve been running it for a while; there are no big architecture changes, and we’ve not had any compatibility issues for the stuff we use, so we reckon it’s probably fine for an upgrade for everyone.

  • The Podcasting 2.0 podcast ran a test on Friday of live HLS video streaming, signalled within the RSS feed.
