Podnews adds a new jobs board; and Paramount signs a new podcast movie

  • As the podcast industry grows, Podnews has added a (bare-bones) jobs board. It’s free for now as we build up its technical capability: you can add your position by emailing updates@podnews.net. We plan to add an area for job seekers soon, too. You’ll find jobs today in Sweden, the UK and the US.

  • Are you listed in Google Podcasts? Chances are: yes. Podnews did some research on a set of podcasts we analysed in February; 97% of them were available in Google Podcasts. (Search for your podcast to find your link; here’s our FAQ).

  • A horror film about a killer podcast: the rights to a new film called Meet Jimmy have been acquired by Paramount. The plot: “a mysterious podcast that once listened to, has horrific consequences”.

  • On Friday we reported that Spotify have removed 'selected episodes’ of the Alex Jones Podcast. Stitcher has removed the lot.

  • The NYT talks about self-help podcasts, in a piece entitled The Podcast Bros Want to Optimize Your Life. “Podcasters may offer a lesson to politicians and activists: to build a following, find a way to provide the sense of affiliation, daily rhythm and ultimate purpose that humans crave.”

  • DAX, a programmatic ad platform, has opened an office in the US. It’s owned by Global, the UK’s media and entertainment group. Ryan Rose will head up the unit.

  • New York cable news channel NY1 has launched its first podcast. Off Topic/On Politics is billed as NY1's political podcast.

  • The Corporation for Public Broadcasting covers a recent public radio presentation about podcasting. “Just 1 percent of the half-million podcasts in the Apple iTunes store generate enough audience to attract sponsorship” - but “the top three podcast publishers in the U.S. are NPR, WNYC and PRX”.
