Journalist and filmmaker Jon Ronson is back with a new show, Things Fell Apart. It features strange, unexpected human stories from the culture wars, and has a strange, unexpected distribution strategy: if you’re in the UK, you’ll hear it free on BBC Sounds (or on BBC Radio 4, Tuesdays at 9am) . If you’re in the US or Canada and using an Apple device, it’s available on BBC Podcasts Premium on Apple Podcasts, and if you’re on Android or elsewhere, you’re out of luck.

Acast released its Q3/21 results. Revenue was up 89% year-on-year, to SEK 265.1m (US $30.8m). Listens increased to 891m; the company estimated that the Apple Podcasts download bug cost them 53m lost listens (5.9%). However, the company made a net loss of $4.6m in the quarter (up 15% year-on-year). The results are, of course, available as a podcast.

Audacy reported their financial results for Q3/21. The company, which owns Cadence13, Pineapple Street Studios and Podcorn, said in an investor call that it made around $16m in revenue from podcasting - 4.8% of the total company’s income.

Futuri has released a major update to its POST radio-to-podcasting system, which has recently been granted a US patent. (The patent is US11109075, granted on Aug 31).

Data: The Brazilian Podcaster Association has released a survey of podcast creators. 44% host on Anchor; 65% don’t monetise their shows in any way.

Stitcher has signed an “exclusive national distribution deal” with US public radio station NHPR. NHPR is an NPR member station, and is the first public radio station to do a deal with Stitcher. Stitcher competes with NPR’s National Public Media for ad revenue, as we understand it.

Clubhouse launched Replays - recording for Clubhouse rooms. You can download the audio: it appears to be a 56kbps stereo AAC file, at 48kHz samplerate.

Podchaser has added a feature for Podchaser Pro users that allow them to find podcasts that accept guests. The service now has more than 13,000,000 podcast credits in its system, it’s announced.
