  • Positive news from audio streaming app Deezer. The company tells Podnews that total podcast streams on their platform more than doubled (up by 116%) from July 2019 to July 2020. Comedy is the most popular genre on the service.

    • Under 18s saw the largest listening growth, with an increase of 246% for streams year-on-year.
    • Deezer Originals are the 2nd most popular category in Germany.
  • A piece about local radio in the UK masks a podcasting data point - polling company YouGov says 15% of Brits listen to podcasts each week.

  • Spotify has signed a new exclusive - the Just Break Up podcast. Of note - it was hosted on Libsyn; had a short incubation period on Anchor some time between September 7-14, and then announced its exclusivity a week later on September 21. It’ll become exclusive from October 19.

    • Spotify has also signed nine exclusives in the Philippines, including an ASMR show with whispered stories and poems designed to help you fall asleep, and a number of relationship podcasts, possibly including questions like “why is my partner wanting to fall asleep to a girl called Inka whispering stories to them”.
