There were 1.7mn podcast episodes last month

• There were 1.7mn new podcast episodes in December (down 11.1%), says Livewire. Spotify for Podcasters hosted 30.4% of them, a new record for the company. Omny Studio dropped below Spotify’s Megaphone for the first time.

• Gen Z’s biggest podcasters are working from bed, suggests Fast Company. At least it’ll cut down on room echo.

• iOS 17 is now being used by 75% of Apple Podcasts listeners, according to OP3’s open data. The iOS 17 changes have resulted in, overall, a 5-6% drop in share across all shows.

• Buzzsprout’s platform stats for December showed a continuing drop for downloads on Apple Podcasts, with a share of 37.1%. The number of active podcasts on the podcast host increased year-on-year by 3.2%.

• Livewire published a list of the top podcast trackers. Podtrac and Spotify’s Chartable are still top of the list. Podscribe, named as a preferred partner by Acast last year, is continuing to increase.
