46% of young Canadian men listen to podcasts

The Canadian Podcast Listener research, which we reported on first on 31 Oct, has a more detailed version now available on their website. 24% listen monthly (more than 7 million), but that figure significantly increases for young Canadian men. Lots of data, now freely available.
As TuneIn is apparently taken to court in the UK, I write this piece about radio’s uneasy relationship with TuneIn.
A produced news podcast, The Daily Debrief, is published by UK national broadcaster LBC. The podcast is ten minutes long and “will drop every afternoon”. To listen on an Amazon Echo, the broadcaster helpfully adds: “Alexa, play the Daily Debrief by LBC”. LBC has over 2m listeners.
No, your podcast isn’t conversational, it’s sloppy argues Jeremy Enns. He gives useful tips how to properly prepare for a decent conversational podcast. Turns out it’s nowhere near as easy as it sounds.
A BBC Radio 1 presenter is signed up to host health podcasts for the NHS, the country’s national health service. Produced by Audio Impressions. The client said: “Using podcasts to reach specific audiences for sensitive subject matters makes complete sense. There are the obvious benefits of confidentiality etc for the listener, but crucially the anonymity afforded by an absence of video/pictures made the contributors feel relaxed and safe.”
The first latin podcast award ceremony happened on October 4. A new podnews subscriber pointed us towards the ceremony, which is online. The podcast awards are based in Wetumpka AL, USA.
Martech writes about the state of podcasting in marketing, focusing on some new business models for podcasting. One interviewee produces “interview-style podcasts feature strategically chosen micro-niche guests whose own audiences were likely to drive traffic back to his client.”
Amazon Australia is to soft-launch at 2pm tomorrow, and be fully available on Friday. Up until now, Amazon has simply sold ebooks in Australia (population 24m), and to purchase a Kindle ebook readers, Amazon customers have had to go to Officeworks. This may mean Audible, Amazon’s audio service, becomes available in the country.
After working on it for two years, we hear that The Vox Markets financial and investment podcast from the UK has reached a nice milestone of 50,000 listens in 7 days. Congratulations to Justin Waite. Part of Vox Markets, which has an intriguing business model.
