Latest Spotify Data: Sports is the fastest-growing video podcast category
This wasn’t a press release: but an email from one of Spotify’s many PR companies. But, in case you wondered how it came to us…
Just as streaming on Spotify changed how fans experience music and connect with their favorite artists, podcasts are redefining sports fandom. Now, with video podcasts on Spotify, fans can see, hear, and connect with their favorite and most trusted voices, moving the experience beyond just watching the game to living in the conversation around it. Radio let fans listen in. Spotify video podcasts let them be there!
Fresh datapoints from Spotify: Sports video podcast consumption on Spotify is up more than 4× YoY—with lift across The Ringer titles, Goalhanger’s The Rest is Football, golf show No Laying Up, Brazilian sports show 3 lados da corrida, and sports content creator Jesser.
And now with NFL and College football kicking off, and Premier League back in England, fans are gearing up for a new season of sports. We’re seeing fandom already exploding on Spotify:
- Explosive Growth: Video sports podcast consumption up +53% QoQ and +416% YoY.
- Female Audience Rising: Female consumption is growing quickly, up +353% YoY.
- Global Scale: US, UK, Brazil, and Australia lead — with Finland breaking into the top 10.
