Spotify, the world’s largest audio streaming company, held its Podcast Live Sessions on 2 and 3 October at the Palacio de la Prensa in Madrid – the biggest live podcast event the platform has ever staged in Spain. A one-off gathering that let fans enjoy their favourite podcasts and creators, and experience a live podcast show first-hand.
Capitalising on the success of video podcasts and comedy in our country – the most-listened-to category among Spotify users in Spain during the first half of 2025 – the event featured some of the genre’s most prominent current stars: “La Ruina” (Ignasi Taltavull and Tomàs Fuentes), “Reyes del Palique” (Fizpireta and Uy Albert), “Arde Venecia” (Juan Dávila and Galder Varas) and “Poco se habla!” (Ana Brito and Xuso Jones). The biggest fans of these shows were the ones who got the chance to attend and be part of the recording of these special episodes, which will be available on Spotify throughout this month.
“Everything starts with our mission: to give millions of creators the chance to make a living from their talent and billions of fans the opportunity to enjoy and be inspired by it. With our Podcast Live Sessions, exclusive to the most loyal fans, we continue putting this mission into practice in Spain by offering creators a unique space to thrive and connect with their audience in a one-of-a-kind way,” says Eduardo Alonso, Head of Podcast for Southern and Eastern Europe at Spotify. “Events like this not only celebrate local talent but also reinforce our commitment to making Spotify the best place to discover, enjoy and share podcasts.”
One in three users in Spain now listens to podcasts
One in three Spotify users in Spain consumes podcasts, a figure that reflects how firmly established the format has become in our country. Following this upward trend, Spain remains among the world leaders: it ranks ninth in the global podcast-consumption chart for the first half of 2025.
Spanish-language content is also growing non-stop: the number of podcasts in our language has risen by more than 20 % compared with the previous year, driven by listener demand and the dynamism of local creators.
The video podcast is enjoying its golden age in Spain
The video podcast has become one of the standout formats in entertainment. During the first half of 2025, consumption in Spain grew by more than 40%. At a European level, the country now ranks third for video-podcast consumption in the same period, with over 46 million hours streamed, according to the latest Spotify data.
The catalogue reflects this trend too: the number of Spanish-language programmes with video episodes rose by 90% compared with the previous year. The charts back it up: nine of the ten most-listened-to podcasts in the first half of 2025 already produce video content. The boom has also reached the creator community, as the number of podcasters actively publishing videos each month in Spain grew by more than 60% compared with the same period in 2024.
Moreover, more than 20% of creators in Spain now produce video content, cementing the format’s role in the local scene. Podcasts such as “La Ruina” or “Poco de Habla!” increased their viewing hours by over 190% and 60% respectively in the year after adding video to their shows.
“The video podcast has become a key format for creators to connect more deeply with their audience. It’s no longer just about listening, but about watching, feeling and sharing the experience. At Spotify we’re investing in this modality because we know it boosts content visibility, widens monetisation opportunities and gives fans exactly what they’re looking for today. The growth we’re seeing in Spain and across Spanish-speaking markets is clear evidence of the moment this format is experiencing,” says Eduardo Alonso, Head of Podcast for Southern and Eastern Europe at Spotify.
Rising talent taking off
Spotify has also unveiled this month the latest additions to its RADAR Creators programme, an initiative that accelerates the growth of emerging audio and video creators. Launched in 2023 as RADAR for Podcasters and conceived as an extension of the global RADAR programme for artists, it gives podcasters access to marketing tools, editorial visibility and promotional support to speed up their growth and amplify the voices of the new generation of creators.
In this new edition, five projects join RADAR Creators, showcasing the diversity and vibrancy of the Spanish scene: “Te la pinto”, “Mamarracha”, “FLUIR CON EL CAOS”, “Me Cago Vivo” and “NO TODO VALE”.
