Wondery, Scamfluencers Story Editor
Wondery is hiring for a Story Editor for Scamfluencers, a weekly nonfiction narrative podcast. We’re looking for an experienced storyteller who can navigate drama and humor, tell stories in a conversational and emotionally engaging way, and maintain the facts of the story within Wondery’s narrative style. In this role you will provide detailed edits and notes to writers, and work closely with the producers and hosts.
This is a full-time six month position with the possibility to extend. We’re looking for someone to start ASAP. Compensation is based on experience and skillset and will be no less than $1,800 per week of service. This position does not provide health, retirement, or pension benefits.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Contribute editorial judgment on episode pitches
Provide detailed notes and guidance for writers on episode outlines and scripts across several drafts
Work directly with the hosts on the scripts
Help writers develop detailed outlines and beat sheets for episodes using a three-act structure
Edit longform scripts, providing both top-line notes and specific line edits/revisions
Work with the senior producer, producer and writer to meet delivery deadlines
Communicate with writers and hosts regarding deadlines and deliverables
Analyze research from our AP and rewrite scripts as needed
Incorporate changes to the script after the fact check review
Edit, revise and prep final delivered scripts for recording session
Attend all table reads and provide feedback
Sit in on tracking sessions for assigned episodes when possible, to assist with any last minute changes or questions from the hosts
Organize and update script and writer folders on Google Drive
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong editorial judgment, journalistic rigor, and compelling storytelling skills
Proven ability to edit longform scripts or stories at a consistently high level
Strong writing skills
Relevant experience in narrative storytelling, preferably in audio
Thoughtful and direct communication style
Ability to match the show’s target tone and style and ensure consistency across episodes
Ability and enthusiasm for working on a collaborative and diverse team
At least 4 years of story editing experience in a fast-paced media environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working on weekly, long-form scripted audio shows
A background in journalism
Bachelor's Degree preferred but not required
