Producer, Unt. Government Secrets Show

Salary range: $8,200 to $9,100 (monthly rate) - subject to experience
Wondery seeks to engage a Producer for a new weekly narrative podcast about the secrets and lies behind the world’s most powerful institutions. CIA cover-ups, secret operations, and declassified military missions and disasters. This series will untangle the threads of hidden histories, sifting through the fog of misinformation to reveal the truth.
This role will collaborate with a team of producers, AP’s, writers, and story editors to launch and run this weekly show. If you’re a leader and a team player with strong story editing skills, a bias for action, an ear for post-production, and an interest in a flexible work arrangement, we want to hear from you.
COMPENSATION FOR SERVICES This is a six-month 1099 independent contractor position with an estimated hourly commitment of 40 hours per week. This contract does have the possibility to extend, although there is no guarantee of continued engagement beyond the contract term. We’re looking for someone to start ASAP. Estimated compensation for this position ranges from $1,900 to $2,100 per week. Compensation is negotiable based on experience, skillset, and location. This position does not provide health, retirement, or pension benefits.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Give detailed notes on story assessments, outlines, and scripts to perfect framing, structure and tone for weekly episodes in collaboration with senior producers, producers and host.
- Work with APs to create episode assembles and rough cuts
- Work with sound designer and team to give detailed mix and sound design notes.
- Search for potential show subjects by conducting research assessments and participating in weekly pitch meetings.
- Help to manage recording sessions with talent and direct hosts.
- Meet the deadlines for your episode from start to finish.
- Attend weekly production and story meetings, and support and maintain the show’s organizing and archiving processes.
- Schedule meetings with internal and external teams.
- Insist on the highest standards across production.
- Write and/or edit metadata and episode summaries.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2 - 4 years of experience writing and/or editing for a narrative scripted nonfiction show.
- 3 - 5 years of experience creating audio assemblies and cutting tape.
- 1 - 2 Experience directing host talent in tracking with scripted material.
- Experience giving mix notes for podcasts with sound design.
- Ability to multitask and stay organized with weekly production deadlines.
- Experience using Descript to cut tape
- Experience producing and conducting research for story-driven, fact-based shows.
- Self-starter with the ability to think critically and independently.
- An interest in stories about the CIA, government secrets, and covert operations.
