Science Podcast Fact Checker
A project or contract Fact Checker position
Fully remote: working with a USA-based team at Wheelhouse.
Salary range: $40.00 to $50.00 (hourly rate) - subject to experience
We're looking for a fact checker to join our weekly science podcast team, coming in to fact check scripts for accuracy. We expect this role to be 3-5 hours of work per week/episode.
Responsibilities:
- Review scripts and interview materials for factual accuracy; flag ambiguous or inaccurate claims and propose corrected language
- Verify all assertions against primary sources, including peer-reviewed scientific literature, government data, official records, wire services
- Maintain citations for each episode
- Collaborate with producers and host on rewrites where inaccuracies are identified
What We’re Looking For:
- 3+ years of fact-checking or editorial research experience, ideally within podcast, radio, or audio programming
- Demonstrated experience on science, health, technology, or similar content - please include relevant show or writing credits
- Strong command of primary-source scientific research
- Ability to identify when a script oversimplifies or misrepresents technical or scientific material
- Clear written communication with concrete next steps
